A Scrappy Year in review

2015 has been an eventful year in our family. Here are a few scrapbook pages documenting some of the more memorable events.

We started the year in the tropical paradise of Belize. The highlight of that trip was the wonderful snorkeling.

Athletically, the highlight of our year was when Benjamin won the AAU Indoor National championship in 60m hurdles for his age.

My baby, who is hardly a baby anymore, graduated from elementary school.

We spent our summer traveling by train in Europe, something I always wanted to do.

There were so many highlights of that trip, but here is a page from our visit to Provence in France.

Thanks for looking and Happy New Year!

Another grape card

I seem to be making a lot of wine and grape themed items lately, I guess it's a good excuse to play with purple. Here is another grape themed card. The grapes are a digital image from Digital Two for Tuesday which is colored. I used card sketch 63 from sketch-n-scrap. I am submitting this to the non-holiday card challenge at Quick Quotes.

Card fun

Sometimes it's much more fun to make a card with no purpose than one for a specific occasion. I find that I eventually end up sending these no purpose cards to someone, although often it's another scrapbooker or cardmaker.  Here's a card I made using color challenge 27 from Your Next Stamp.  The sentiment was made using a YNS stamp, but I changed it around by using a wood piece in the middle.

Gigondas

We took a wonderful wine tour from Avignon in France. Our first stop was the village of Gigondas in the Cotes du Rhone region.

I am submitting this to the inspiration challenge at Creative Embellishments. I was inspired by the earthy colors combined with nature elements in the inspiration photo. The photo also inspired me to add a little butterfly in my upper flower cluster. The wooden arrows  in the lower cluster are from Creative Embellishments. I also included the twist of adding a flourish. I die-cut a small flourish and cut it in half, using one half in each flower cluster.

I also used this sketch from ScrapMuch?

Photo Fun at Pisa

We stopped in Pisa to visit the leaning tower this summer. The tower is much more impressive in person than in photos and it is hard to believe how far it is actually leaning over. We had some fun taking these stereotypical photos. Sometimes you just have to be a tourist.

Bratislava

Here's another 2-page layout from our Europe trip, this one is about Bratislava, which is the Capital of Slovakia. It's really quite a beautiful city, but the main square is still being updated. It was an interesting perspective and a contrast to the other Capitals that are already all fixed up for the tourists. We really enjoyed Bratislava. I used this sketch from ScrapMuch for the left side and then I extended it to be a 2-pager.

Birthday Fishes

Here's a card I made for my son's 12th birthday.

I used this sketch from Your next Stamp and this color scheme from Let's Scrap. (It matches the color scheme in real life, but my scanner doesn't get neon colors accurately.  You can get more information about the punch work here on the Kreaxions blog. Here's the inside of the card:
12 little fishes for 12 years old!

My husband and son ran together in 13 different countries while we were traveling this summer. I used this sketch from ScrapMuch?! to document this.

In case you are wondering, the photo on the left is Barcelona and the one on the right is France near Monaco.

White Stork Sysnagogue

I'm up on the Kreaxions blog today with layout about the White Stork synagogue in Wroclaw Poland. Visiting a synagogue in a place where 3,000,000 Jews were killed during the Holocaust is a very special experience.

My son is turning 14 next week. He love to travel so I made him this card using this sketch from Your Next Stamp.

The ticket is a real train ticket from a place he loved, and the balloon represents his first time he went to Junior Olympics. Obviously the beach is because he loves the beach.

5th Grade Show

My baby is graduating from elementary school next week, so I'm trying to finish up his elementary school pages. This page features photos from the school show, the 5th graders participate in some class numbers (neon shirts) and plus each is in a smaller number (my son's has the mustache shirts). I used this sketch from ScrapMuch?

Photo-Bomb!

I'm up on the Kreaxions blog today with this fun page from my son's Bar Mitzvah. We had a photo session prior to the reception. Zachary was in a good mood and having fun. He photo-bombed these 2 photos. Luckily the photographer had a good sense of humor. I didn't edit these photos at all!

3 Ribbons

My son had a great day at a track meet earlier this month, 3 events leading to 3 ribbons, especially sweet since it was his first time competing in high jump and he practices without a real bar. This is my entry to this challenge to use the number 3 on a layout.

Bar Mitzvah Lessons

My son had his Bar Mitzvah last October. Now that we have the professional album ordered, I am making an album with some keepsake items and the photos that don't do in the professional album. This layout is of his last lesson with the tutor before the big day. They went into the sanctuary and used a real Torah for the first time. I used this sketch from ScrapMuch? and I will probably add journaling later, possible on the back.

Sting Rays

We got to see many sting rays while snorkeling in Belize. They didn't bother us at all and were pretty easy to photograph. I used this sketch from sketches in thyme and my color scheme was inspired by the upper right corner of this mood board from SWAT. These colors are very unusual for me, but I think they worked well with my photos.

Vacation Pages

I am trying to finish up the 2014 vacation album before we take any vacations this month. Here is the final page from our summer trip to Suriname.  Even though I saved this page for last, visiting the Neveh Shalom synagogue in Paramaribo was a very special treat for us. This is the oldest continuous Jewish congregation in the Americas. I used this sketch from ScrapMuch for my two-page layouts about the synagogue.

I am also finishing the snorkeling pages from our winter trip to Belize. For this layout is I used this sketch from Sketches in Thyme.

Bar Mitzvah Card

I remember over 30 years ago, when I had my Bat Mitzvah, I received multiples of each card available in the card stores. This past October, when my son had his Bar Mitzvah, nothing had changed in this regard. This motivates me to make hand-made cards for each Mitzvah we are invited to. Even so, all my Mitzvah cards are similar as there are very limited options for Bar and Bat Mitzvah themed products.  This card is for my son's friend who will be celebrating tomorrow.

I used this sketch from Your Next stamp.

Belize

I recently discovered CraftSmith papers and fell in love with the Pacific Cove collection which is perfect for my Belize photos.

This page of my husband and sons in a kayak was taken from the shore at our hotel and uses this sketch from Stuck?!:

This page is about a fun story. We had gone snorkeling with a guide and while we were in the boat taking off our fins, my younger son climbed out of the boat and walked through the water over to this island where we spotted him. We have a family joke about private islands which led to my title. This is for the picture tells a story challenge at Memorable Seasons, please visit us here and check it out.
