Sports Inspiration with Louise

Hello! Louise here with another project using this month's amazing Club Q kit. The layout kit contains everything you need to make two double page layouts. In my family, each season has its sport and in the Spring it's track. By combining papers from both page kits and using the prints on the reverse sides, I was able to quickly assemble this Spring Track page.

I am making a single scrapbook for my son's high school years. I like to make a double page summary for each sports season with a few photos and his best times. He likes to chose some of the photos for these pages. The boys on his team typically take some fun posed shots at the last track meet of the season. I left some space on the right for those.

All of the papers in this project are edged with PowderPuff Chalk ink in Navy, Cactus, or Lipstick.  Here is a close-up of the left side:

High school sports are as much about the friendship and the experience as they are about the sport itself. The quotes and phrases included with the kit express this perfectly. (The journaling spot and the phrases come from the Earth Wind Fire 500 paper which is included in the altered project kit). I also added some chevrons which I die-cut from extra pieces included with the kit.

Here is a close-up of the banner. The large pennants came from the same phrases sheet. I like to tie knots in the twine along the top of my banners. I get the knots to line-up with the corners by working slowly and adhering the twine to the paper as I proceed.

This design can easily be adapted to any Spring sport. I cut the large red ring in half to symbolize the rounded end of the track oval. If I was scrapping a sport with a ball, I probably would keep the ring whole and put it elsewhere on the page.

There is plenty of product included in this kit, so after making this page, I have enough papers left to make another double page layout similar to the ones in the instructions and all of the altered projects.

I have really enjoyed working with this month's Club Q. I hope I have shown you how wonderful and flexible this kit is.

Club Q with Louise!

Good Morning Quick Quotes readers, Louise here today. Mother's Day is two days away, are you ready?  Here is a Mother's Day gift I made using this month's awesome Club Q kit.

The box book is very easy to make by following the instructions that come with the kit. The kit actually makes 2 boxes and 2 books so you can mix and match the pieces to get the color scheme that you prefer. My Mom likes green better than red, so I chose to use more of the green pieces on this one. All the papers in the box are edged with PowderPuff Chalk ink in Navy or Cactus.

You can see the box construction in these photos:

The box contains a little accordion book which can hold 5 photos. I chose photos from the past few months that are special memories for my Mom.

In the past, my Mom displayed the mini-albums I gave her in her living room. I wanted her to be able display the accordion book with the photos showing, so I made it horizontally.

I wanted some of the photos to be larger than others, so I cut some of green mats larger than indicated in the instructions. There was plenty of green paper in the kit so this wasn't an issue. In case you want to do this with your kit, the larger mats are 3 1/2 by 5 inches.

I added lots of phrases from the quotes and phrases sheet that came with the kit, it was easy because they said all the right things.

I made the matching card using scraps leftover from this project. I added the red flower from one of the layout kits in this month's Club Q. There are still plenty of flowers left that I can use on the layouts, and I thought it added a lot to the card. The petals are inked in Lipstick PowderPuff Chalk ink.  I stamped the word "Mom" with Navy PowdePpuff Chalk ink.

Enjoying Life with Louise

Good morning Quick Quotes readers! I'm up on the Quick Quotes blog today to share a layout using the Navigator collection. These photos of my kids and husband playing in the pool are special because my Mom was with us that day as you can see in the lower photo.

Using a coordinated collection like this makes it very easy to create a scrapbook layout. I like to stamp and decided to stamp a flourish directly onto my background paper using an acrylic stamp and PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Deep Sea. I often use a foam mat under my paper when I stamp with acrylic stamps to make the image a bit darker.

An easy way to design a layout using a coordinated collection is  just to make horizontal stripes across the page using different papers. I move them around until I like how they look as you can see in the image below.  I used a title phrase from the Farmhouse 500 paper. Even though it is from a different collection, the colors match perfectly. I decided to add one vertical stripe on the right to balance the stamped image.

The long banner is a leftover die-cut from my February Club Q. Many of the die-cuts in these kits are neutral colors so they can be saved and used later. I used 3 colors of PowderPuff Chalk Ink and a blending tool to color the banner. Working light to dark, I started with the Bermuda ink dabbing it lightly in different spots on the banner. Next I used the same technique with the Key Largo ink and Deep Sea ink. Finally, I inked the bottom edges of the banner with Deep Sea. (I didn't need to ink the top of the banner since I was planning to cover it with my other layers).

At this point I had a bunch of scraps sitting on my table. I used a light colored area of one for my journaling and punched tags from some others. The chevron paper in the lower left was a scrap from the new Secret Garden collection that was leftover from a previous project. The phrases are from the Navigator Quotes and Phrases sheet. Before adhering the page together, I inked all edges with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Deep Sea.
