February Club Q with Louise

Good morning Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with another project from the wonderful February Club Q kit. The products in the kit can be used for a variety of subjects including love (it's February after all) and travel. I created this layout about wandering around on vacation looking for ice cream, what could be more perfect?

The saying "My heart is Happy" came with the kit and fit perfectly inside the white chipboard frame. I colored the frame using PowderPuff Chalking ink in Sandy Shore and a blending tool. However, I wanted the phrase inside to stand out a bit more so I applied a darker PowderPuff ink, Deep Sea, on the inside edge of the frame. I applied it directly from the ink pad, slowly from the bottom to insure that it only went on the inside edge and not on top.

Due to the varied textures on this page, I used a variety of techniques to apply PowderPuff inks.  The horizontal stripe was a darker chipboard so it required a more intense coloring. I applied PowderPuff Chalking Ink in Deep Sea directly to the chipboard. The kit came with a 12 inch long banner pre-cut from a blue and white patterned paper. I applied the same Deep Sea ink to the edges and lightly on the pattern to create the look I wanted. The flourish was made from the same white chipboard as the frame so I used the same blending tool to apply the Sandy Shore ink. To finish the page, I added a few little wooden hearts from my stash. I colored them by applying the ink pad directly, in either Tropical Punch or Sandy Shore.

February Club Q with Louise

Happy Valentines Day! Louise here with the February Club Q kit. There are so many wonderful papers and elements in this kit and the colors are beautiful. Usually it's difficult to use purples and flowers with boys, but the papers  and elements in this kit are very flexible and worked perfectly with my vacation photos.

I had a lot of photos, so I created a two page layout. For the left side, I used the arched chipboard phrase as my title.  I like how the rounded chipboard draws the eye into the arches in the photos.

I wanted the title to blend in with the page rather than jump out. One of the nice things about the white chipboard is that you don't have to color it completely. In this case, I only wanted a light color. Using my blending tool and PowderPuff chalking ink in Purple Rain, I lightly dabbed the chipboard until it was the right shade of purple to match my photos. To make the arch look more finished, I added 3 of the small pearls to each end of the arch.

On the right side of the layout, I layered several of the beautiful papers that came in the kit. I inked the edges of the papers with PowderPuff Chalking inks in Purple Rain and Tropical Punch.

The kit contains both paper and chipboard flowers. I combined them to make the 3 dimensional flowers. The paper flowers are 2 sided, I used the solid yellow side for these flowers. I folded the petals up and inked the edges using PowderPuff Chalking ink in Sandy Shore. I fold the petals up and down to access all the edges using the pointy corners of the inkpad. To shape the paper flower, I put it upside down on a soft surface (for these photos I used this foam mat, but sometimes I use the palm of my hand). I squirt the back of the flower with water and delicately shape the flower using plastic tools or my fingers. After the petals are shaped, I turn the flower over, fold the petals up, and leave them to dry. While the paper flowers were drying, I colored the chipboard flowers using the blending tool and the same shade of ink. You can see in the photo below that I used the same ink and blending tool to color the scalloped chipboard, but chose to put thicker a coverage on the scallops and a lighter coverage on the flowers.

Finally, I used the ink pad directly on the tips of the chipboard flowers to make them just a little darker and folded the petals up just a little. I adhered the paper flower on top of the chipboard flower and added one of the pearls from the kit into the center.

The kit came with a few white chipboard tags. I tucked 2 of them under photos, one on each side, using the one on the left for journaling. I didn't want the tags to be too colorful, but I didn't want them to stay bright white either so I colored them with the blending tools that had residual ink on them from the earlier coloring. I added the smallest flower to the journaling tag.

Before I show the pages together, I want to show a close-up of how well these papers line up. They are not mirror images of each other, but they match up perfectly to create 2 pages that look great separately or together.

And here is the 2 page layout with both sides together.

Spring Showers with Louise

Happy Monday! I'm up on the Quick Quotes blog today with the new Spring Showers collection. Since February is associated with romance, I decided to share a scrapbook layout of our 20th anniversary dinner. We didn't think to get a romantic picture of the two of us together, but we did take some pictures of the amazing food.

I used the beautiful Spring Showers 100 paper for my background. This pattern has flowers around the edges and woodgrain in the middle, making it very easy to emphasize my photos. I added vertical strips from both sides of the Spring Showers 101 paper and matted my photos with the reverse prints of Springs Showers 104 and 105. The strips and photos mats are all edged with Powderpuff Chalking inks in Fuchsia, Tropical Punch, and Key Largo which gives them a more finished appearance. I printed my journaling on generic white cardstock, inked it with Bermuda Chalking ink and matted it with the reverse of Spring Showers 100 (also inked with Bermuda).

I wanted the beautiful flowers on the background paper to stand out more, so I took another sheet of the same paper and fussy cut 3 flowers. I generously inked the edges, the pink flower with Fuchsia and the orange flowers with Tropical Punch. I adhered these flowers in their original location using foam adhesive, overlapping the photos and vertical strips.

To finish the layout, I cut 3 little pennants from my scraps, generously inked them with Key largo chalking ink and added them in the upper corner.  I die-cut the title from the reverse of Spring Showers 105. Finally, I punched 2 little hearts from my scraps and inked them with the Bermuda chalking ink.
