Adventure Awaits with Louise!

Hello Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with a card I made using PowderPuff Chalk Inks and the Far and Away paper collection.

This time of year, many northerners head south to escape the cold. My Mom will be traveling solo for a month to warmer climates. This is the first time she has ever done that and I made this card  to wish her luck on her trip.

I have several large stamps, and I'm always experimenting with different ways to use them. One of my favorite techniques is to add a colorful background using PowderPuff Chalk Inks and my Ink blending tool:
  • I stamped the image onto white cardstock and trimmed it down without borders.
  • I assembled a pallet of PowderPuff Chalk Inks that look nice together: Bermuda, Cactus, Deep Sea, Key Largo, and Sandy Shore
  • Starting with Bermuda, I used my ink blending tool to apply ink to several areas of the stamped image. I used light pressure and a round motion so I didn't create heavy lines.
  • I repeated this technique with each color until the image was entirely colored.
  • Note that I change the pad on my blending tool for colors that are very different, but use the same pad for colors that are close to each other.

After I colored the image, I cut a card-base slightly larger than it.
  • I used scraps leftover from the Far and Away paper collection to cover the front of the card.
  • I stamped my sentiment onto another scrap from the collection using PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Deep Sea and trimmed the sentiment into a strip. I was going to trim it down to the width of the card, but then I decided that I like the ends sticking out.
  • I added a little banner from the Far and Away Quotes and Phrases sheet.
  • Before assembling the card, I inked all edges with powderPuff Chalk Ink in Deep Sea.

This coloring technique is one of my favorites. I hope I have inspired you to try it!

Life Is Grape!

I received a bottle of Frog's Leap wine from a person whose favorite color is purple, which inspired me to make this thank you card for her. The papers, flower, and grape stamps are from Heartfelt Creations and colored with comics. The sentiment stamp is from Your Next Stamp!

Family Tradition with Louise!

Hello Quick Quotes readers!  Louise here on the blog today playing along with this month's challenge, Holiday Celebrations. You can find more information about the challenge here.

I love the colors in the Very Merry Digital Collection and thought they would be perfect for these Hanukkah photos. I prefer to scrap with paper so I printed some of the papers and embellishments in the collection onto white cardstock.

I chose Very Merry 4 as my base because I liked the "light spots" for the Festival lights and because the brown background matched well with my photos.
  • I double matted my photos with Very Merry 12 edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Bermuda and Very Merry 7 edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo.
  • My small photos weren't quite big enough to span the width of the larger photo so I decided to poke holes and add some stitching with a simple needle and thread as shown below.
  • I layered the double-matted photos over a couple of ribbons leftover from my November Club Q. I didn't have enough of one ribbon, so I left a gap where it wouldn't be seen.
  • For the title, I printed a couple of words from the Heritage Quotes Digital Collection, hand-trimmed them into a rounded shape, and inked with edge with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo.
  • I added 3 gems leftover from my November Club Q onto 3 of the "light spots" on the background paper to form a visual triangle and add some sparkle.

Hanukkah embellishments are very hard to find, so I made them myself using Very Merry papers 4 and 12 and PowderPuff Chalk Inks.
  • The candles were die-cut from Very Merry 12 and PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Sandy Shore was applied directly to the ends to make the flames.
  • The base of the menorah was die-cut from Very Merry 4 and the top is edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Capri Blue.
  • The Jewish Star and smaller menorah were stamped onto Very Merry 12 with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo. The star was fussy cut and the menorah cut with a circle punch, then both were edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo.

Whether you are a paper, hybrid, or digital scrapper, I hope I have inspired you to try some of the new Quick Quotes Digital Collections. Happy Holidays!

Holiday Party with Louise!

Happy Thursday Quick Quotes readers! I'm on the Quick Quotes blog today with a few items I made for our family holiday party using the Very Merry Digital Collection.

This first photo shows my favorite holiday craft,  the candy guessing jars that I put out every year. We host an annual family holiday party for about 20 relatives. The cousins are all different ages and it's difficult to find holiday games and activities that appeal to everyone. One game that works for everyone is the candy guessing game.

Everyone guesses how many candies are in the jar and the person with the closest guess wins the jar. I make multiple jars so we get multiple winners which I award at the end of the party.

These are really easy to make:
  • Save and wash food jars or buy little inexpensive candy jars
  • Print Very Merry papers 3 and 6 onto white cardstock
  • Die-cut or punch circles in various sizes to fit on the lids
  • Die-cut numbers to identify the jars
  • Cut long strips to wrap around larger jars
  • Ink all edges with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo
  • Adhere all the pieces to the jars (I used regular 2-sided tape and glue dots)
  • Fill the jars with small candies, and close the lids!

Make sure you count the candies before you put them in the jars and keep the answers hidden in a safe place!

Obviously with many guests, we need gift tags to know which gift goes to whom. Here is one of the tags that I made:

  • Print Very Merry papers 3 and 6  onto white cardstock (I used the leftovers from the project above)
  • Stamp greetings onto Very Merry 6 using PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo
  • Ink all edges with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo
  • Mount pieces on Autumn Brilliance 105 trimmed to 5" by 3"
  • Assemble the tag, punch a hole, and add twine and embellishments (I added jewels leftover from my November Club Q and a wooden heart which I inked with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo).

I hope I have inspired you to create a few crafts for your holiday gatherings!

Happy Hanukah Card!

It's that time of year! Here is a Hanukah card I made using card sketch #102 at Your Next Stamp which can be found here.

The Macaron stamp is from Your Next Stamp, stamped with YNS Black Olive ink and is colored with copics. The greeting is an old unmounted rubber stamp from my stash, stamped with Quick Quotes PowderPuff Chalk Ink (which I also used to ink the edges). Patterned paper is from Stamping station.

Holiday cards with Louise!

Hello Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with a couple of quick holiday cards I made using my November Club Q kit and the new Very Merry Digital collection.

Both cards are 5 1/2" by 4 1/4".  I made the card bases by cutting a piece of 8 1/2" by 11"white cardstock in half.

To make the Hanukkah Card:
  • Print Very Merry papers 3 and 6 onto white cardstock
  • Stamp a greeting onto Very Merry 6 using PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo
  • Trim the stamped image to 4 1/2" by 3" and edge with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo
  • Trim Very Merry 3 to the size of the card and edge with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Kokomo
  • Assemble card as shown, adding ribbon and jewels from November Club Q

A couple of hints about the Hanukkah Card:
  • If you don't have a Hanukkah stamp, you can add the sentiment digitally before printing the paper out, or use a generic stamp that says something like Happy Holidays.
  • If you don't have a 12 inch printer, you can print a portion of the digital paper onto the size paper your printer supports since you are going to be trimming it into a card anyway.

The Christmas Card is made entirely from the Altered Kit in the November Club Q. To make the Christmas Card:
  • Cut Holly Jolly 103 to the size of the card and edge with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Cactus
  • Find the pre-cut piece of red patterned paper and edge with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Lipstick, adhere to green side of the first paper
  • Apply adhesive directly onto the ribbon and adhere along the line between the 2 papers, trimming the ribbon to about 1/2" past the paper on each end
  • Fold the ribbon over the edges and tape to the back
  • Thread the leftover ribbon underneath the attached piece of ribbon and tie a single knot. Trim the ends of the ribbon on a diagonal
  • Cut out greeting element and edge with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Cactus
  • Trim pre-cut banners so they don't overlap the greeting element and edge with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Cactus
  • Assemble card as shown, adding a single jewel from November Club Q

There are many different cutouts in the November Club Q that can be used as the greeting element in place of the one I chose. That is a great way to make multiples of the same card with each a little different.

These cards were both very quick to make and fit into standard envelopes, things that are very important if you send a lot of cards this time of year.

Club Q with Louise!

Hello Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with a couple of scrapbook pages that I made using this month's Club Q kit. The November Club Q page kit features beautiful fall colors that can be used to scrap family gatherings or a variety of other fall events.

November is the month to think about what we are thankful for. With teenagers, we are thankful for many different things: that they have nice friends, good activities that keep them out of trouble, and success in their endeavors. This first page is celebrating an athletic victory, and the journaling  mentions both the team championship and the good friends my son has made through his team.

The pre-cut frame that came with my November Club Q made it very easy to create this grid layout.

  • The small pictures were trimmed a little larger than their intended spaces and were adhered onto the back of the frame.
  • Next the frame with the small photos attached was adhered onto the background paper.
  • I added the reverse side of some of the cut-out rectangles into the spots where they fit.
  • The chipboard flower was colored with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Deep Sea, Lipstick, and Sea Foam using my ink blending tool.
  • I took a photo of my son's medals and fussy cut them out to use on the page.
  • I added some of the paper leaves that came with the kit and punched a couple more using a leaf punch.
  • All edges are inked with PowderPuff Chalk ink in Mahogany.

This next page is about my son getting his driver's license and that he was grateful that to have passed his driving test on the first try.

All of the papers in these kits are double sided and I like to look at both sides of each paper before deciding which to use. I love the gray wood print and thought it would be perfect for the background.
  • I used a stencil and PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Cool Gray to add a subtle triangle pattern on the gray background to match the triangle pattern in the large pennant.
  • I decided to add a little more subtle interest to the background by stamping the words "Happy Birthday" in a few places, again using PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Cool Gray.
  • For my journaling, I cut a piece of white cardstock to fit in the chipboard frame.  I didn't want the white to be too bright so I very lightly applied PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Sandy Shore using my ink blending tool before journaling. I used the same technique for the white cardstock I used to mat my photo.
  • The chipboard  title, flourish, and journaling frame were all part of my kit. I usually use my PowderPuff Chalk Inks to color or enhance my chipboard, by I really liked the look of the plain chipboard with the fall colors and masculine theme, so I left them as is.

The edges of my photo mat are inked with PowderPuff Chalking Ink in Sandy Shore. All of the patterned papers are edged with Powderpuff Chalk Ink in Cool Gray or Capri Blue.

The gingham ribbon and "joy" pennant were from the Altered Project part of my Club Q kit, but there is still enough left for those projects.

I loved using the beautiful fall colors in this month's Club Q.

Autumn Brilliance with Louise!

Hello, Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with a double layout I created using the new Autumn Brilliance paper collection and embellishments from some of the new digital collections.

These photos are actually from last summer when my son went to Minnesota to play in an Ultimate Frisbee championship.  The team uniforms were black, gold, and white and didn't look right with any summer or sports papers. The moment I saw the golden shades in the Autumn Brilliance collection, I knew they would be perfect for these photos.

  • For the background, I used 2 sheets of the Autumn Brilliance 100 paper.  I then added a 2.5 inch strip of Autumn Brilliance 105, edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Sea Foam, and a 1.5 inch strip of Autumn Brilliance 103, edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Sandy Shore.
  • The small action photos are matted on a 12 inch by 4 inch strip of Autumn Brilliance 102, edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Cool Gray. The titles and banner are all die-cut from the same paper while the vine along the right is die-cut from the other side of this paper.
  • The arrow is fussy cut from the Autumn Brilliance 105 paper.
  • Throughout the entire page, I was careful to make sure that all my wood-grains were oriented vertically, even the die-cut pieces

I am not a digital scrapper, but I wanted to use a few of the new digital embellishments on my page, particularly one of the journaling blocks.
  • I saw several journaling blocks in the Summer Samba digital collection that might work, but I wasn't sure which one would look best once they were printed out.
  • Rather than using a fancy photo editing program, I just used PowerPoint to create a single slide with the 3 journaling blocks I was considering. I typed up my journaling in PowerPoint and layered it over a couple of the journaling blocks that didn't have lines.
  • I had a little space on my slide so I added a few other embellishments that I might choose to use.
  • I printed the slide onto generic white cardstock as you can see in the photo below.
  • Then I was able to fussy cut the elements out, edge them with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Cool Gray,  and add them to my page as traditional paper elements.

I hope I've inspired you to look at thew new digital collections, they can be used digitally or in a hybrid manner as I've done here.

Two-fold card

Here is card I made for the Challenge #101 on Your Next Stamp blog which can be found here. The challenge is to make a fun-fold or interactive card. However, I have teen-agers and anything more "fun" than a two-fold card would be laughed out of the house, so here is my two-fold card:

and here you can see it opened up with another macaron on the flap:

The macaron stamps and  sentiments are from the TNS Ooh La La set. The stamps are colored with copic markers and the papers are from Graphic 45 and Basic Grey.

This is also my entry into the Daily marker 30 day coloring challenge which can be found here.

Happy Halloween with Louise!

Happy Friday, Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with a couple of Halloween cards I made using the new Halloween color scheme of orange and teal.

Have you heard about the Teal Pumpkins? Houses that are offering allergy-friendly treats are supposed to put them in the window so kids with food allergies know they can trick-or-treat safely at those houses. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it seemed like a good theme for my first card.

  • I used a pre-cut piece of patterned paper that was leftover from the August Club Q kit. I thought the subtle orange print was perfect for my theme.
  • I only have the one pumpkin stamp and I wanted 2 pumpkins on my card so I used a scrap of paper to mask part of the stamp when I stamped the first pumpkin.
  • Since I can see through the acrylic stamp, it was easy to line up the stamp for the second pumpkin.
  • I colored the pumpkins using a water brush and PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Island Orange and Key Largo. I used the top of each ink case as a pallet for the ink.
  • The leaves are colored with the PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Cactus.

I like the idea of a black card base for Halloween so I made my own from cardstock. I made the rest of the card using papers from the Spring Showers Paper Pack, inking all the edges with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Island Orange or Key Largo.

For my second card, I used some leftover papers from my August Club Q kit. I thought this orange and blue print was just perfect for Halloween.  The images are stamped with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Midnight Confession and the edges are inked with PowderPuff Chalk ink in Bermuda and Island Orange. The orange brad was also a leftover from my August Club Q.

I hope I have inspired you to try this new Halloween color scheme.

Halloween Treat Bags with Louise!

Hello  Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with a little Halloween treat bag that I made using the Spring Showers Paper Pack, acrylic stamps, and PowderPuff Chalk Inks.

I don't have a cutting die for a little bag so I just made my own. I used generic white cardstock and added the patterned papers to the sides that show.
  • Since I didn't need a specific size, I decided it was faster to approximate than to measure.
  • I scored the shape of the bottom onto my cardstock: 2 horizontal scores and 2 vertical scores.
  • I then hand-cut the around the scored lines to make the shape in the photo below with flaps for the adhesive.
  • Since all the pieces that stick out are the same length (about 3"), this will fold perfectly into a little bag.

  • Next I measured the four rectangular faces and cut patterned papers to fit.
  • I used Spring Showers 101 edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Island Orange for the small faces and Spring Showers 102 edged with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Midnight Confession for the larger faces.

  • I used acrylic stamps with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Midnight Confession to create these designs for the larger faces:

  • I adhered the patterned paper to the cardstock bag and added extra adhesive to the flaps.

Finally I closed up the bag, punched a whole in each of the small sides and added a twine handle.

Halloween is 2 weeks away! I hope I have inspired you to create some quick and easy treat bags.

October Challenge: Geometric Design

Good morning Quick Quotes readers, Louise here. Today is the first Friday of October which means it's time to reveal our new challenge...

Use Triangles or Create a Geometric Design

Today happens to be my son's 17th birthday which means that by the time you read this, he either will or won't have passed his driving test. I made him this card which has nothing to do with cars in case he doesn't pass. I used masculine colors and a geometric design based on triangles.

Before making the geometric design on the background, I started with a piece of Spring Showers 102 which I cut to the size of my card base. To add the design:

  • I used removable tape to hold the stencil in place while I applied PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Navy using my ink blending tool.
  • Next I rotated the stencil, taped it to other side and applied the ink in the same manner.

Here you can see the background of the card with the geometric triangle pattern:

I added the red triangles cut from the Secret Garden 103 paper and the sentiments from the Earth Wind Fire 500 paper.

To make the arrow, I used my ink blending tool to apply PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Navy to a scrap of white cardstick. I cut the arrow using a metal die and then cut it in half. I applied more Navy ink directly to the edges and adhered the arrow as you can see above,

All edges were inked with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Navy.

Card inspiration with Louise!

Hello Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with a quick card I made using the Spring Showers Paper Pack and PowderPuff Chalk inks.

I had fun coloring the "macaron people" with PowderPuff Chalk inks and a waterbrush. Using a water brush with chalk inks is a very simple way to get the look of watercolors without the mess.

  • I use the cover of each inkpad as a pallet for that color as shown in the photo below. When I am done with my project, I am able to wipe the ink off using a rag.
  • The "male macaron" is colored with PowderPuff Chalk ink in Capri Blue and Key Largo, while the female is colored with Island Orange and Tropical Punch. Both of them have an accessory (hat, bow) which I colored in Sandy Shore, and of course the mustache is colored with Midnight Confession.
  • Before assembling the card, I inked the edges of the papers with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Capri Blue.
  • I adhered the "macaron people" on raised foam such that they appear to be holding hands.

I hope I've inspired you to use your stamps with PowderPuff Chalk Inks and a waterbrush to create a fun and easy card.

Back to School with Louise!

Happy Tuesday, Quick Quotes readers! Louise here with a page about my son's first day of high school.

High school is such a special time, with so many opportunities to grow and create memories. I used  quotes and phrases from several collections to convey the wishes I have for him over the next four years.

I chose the Secret Garden 100 paper for the background because our school color is that shade of blue. The white rectangle and red circle were pre-cut pieces leftover from my May Club Q kit; the banner was a leftover from my February Club Q kit.

  • I fussy cut the horizontal blue chevron the the Secret Garden 105 paper, inked the edges with the PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Deep Sea and adhered it such that it points to the name of the school.
  • I used my ink blending tool to apply a small amount of PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Sandy Shore to the banner.
  • I added pennants from the the Far and Away 12" x 12" Quotes and Phrase to the ends of banner. You can see in the image below how I lined them up and then added the long quote across the top.

The phrase in the close-up below is a travel phrase from the Far and Away Quotes and Phrases. I really liked what it said, but thought the appearance looked too much like travel. As you can see in the lower image, I changed the look by cropping it down and heavily inking the edges with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Deep Sea.

I inked all the edges with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Deep Sea, Key largo, or Sandy Shore. I think the date is very important on pages like this, so I added it in the lower right corner. I just hand wrote it on a scrap of white from the cut-off strip, trimmed it down, and inked it with Deep Sea.

For those of you with children or grandchildren in school, I hope they have a great year and I hope I've given you some ideas for scrapping the first day.

The Sweetest Thing with Louise!

Hello Quick Quotes readers, Louise here on the blog today. As the kids are going back to school, I am scrapping our summer memories. Here's a page I made using the Quick Quotes Far and Away collection:

Traveling with teenagers can be challenging, especially when trying to get them to smile for the camera. With my teenagers, the one exception to this is when they are eating, especially if they are eating chocolate. As a result, some of our best vacation photos are of meals and I seem to make a lot of vacation pages about food. In this case, we were eating crepes in a beautiful outdoor location, overlooking a canal and a historic building.

I started this page by creating horizontal stripes across the page.  Using only papers from the Far and Away collection, I chose the suitcase paper because we were on vacation and the water paper because of the canal. The blue and yellow color scheme gives it a summer feel.

Horizontal stripes are an easy way to layer a page, but I like to add some asymmetry to make the page more interesting. I did this with the following elements:

  • The large sun in the upper left
  • The title placed on an angle
  • The embellishment and journaling cluster in the lower right
I made the sun using a gear die and cut it from the subtle orange and blue stripe print in the collection.
  • I changed the color of the sun using PowderPuff Chalk Ink in Sandy Shore. I applied the ink generously using my ink blending tool  and inked directly around the edges, especially between the 2 pieces.
  • I taped the circle to the gear, carefully lining up the stripes, and then trimmed the sun to the right size for the page.

As I was deciding what to put in my embellishment cluster, I found this flower which I had made for a previous project but never used. The flower was the perfect size and already shaped, but it wasn't the right color, even though it was made from the same collection.
  • I changed the color of the flower using the same color and technique that I used for the sun.
  • I used loose glitter for the center of the flower.
  • Like the rest of the page, all of the papers in my embellishment cluster are inked with PowderPuff Chalk Ink in either Deep Sea or Sandy Shore.

I hope I've inspired photograph and scrap your memorable vacation meals.

Sunny Days with Louise!

Good morning Quick Quotes readers! I hope you all had a great summer. Louise here on the blog with a couple of scrapbook pages about my summer vacation that I made using this month's amazing Club Q kit.

We were on vacation at a lake and my teenagers decided we should rent both a pedal boat and a paddle board at the same time and bring a frisbee into the lake. It was wonderful to see my teenagers having simple fun with smiles on their faces, and even including us in the fun.  I had my phone on the pedal boat and was able to snap some pictures.

The Club Q kit contains so many beautiful papers and embellishments and everything goes together perfectly, so it was very easy to create these pages. I didn't even need to cut a single piece of paper and the only thing that I added was PowderPuff Chalk Ink.

The highlight of this page is the big sun. It came pre-cut in the kit. All I did was ink the edges with PowderPuff Chalk ink in Sandy Shore and adhere it to the page.

The title is made from 2 pieces of white chipboard that were included in the kit:
  • I used my ink blending tool to apply PowderPuff Chalk ink in Deep Sea.
  • I added extra ink directly to the edges.
  • I layered the title over the light orange print and attached the chipboard frame with orange brads.
  • I decide to leave the frame white, but added a small bit of PowderPuff Chalk ink in Sandy Shore to the edges.

I decided to use little circles as embellishments because they resemble the frisbee. I used a different type center in each one (brad, pearl, and flower) and inked the edges in a coordinating color of PowderPuff Chalk ink (Bermuda, Key largo, and Sandy Shore).

Even though I have more photos from the same outing, I decided to create 2 separate scrapbook pages instead of a 2-page spread.  Here is the second page I created using the same colors and techniques as described above.

On this page, I used the round "frisbee" embellishments along the edge of my journaling block.

I had so much fun creating these pages with the beautiful papers in this kit. I hope I have given you some ideas for scrapping your own sunny day photos.

Sunflowers

I love sunflowers, they are so cheerful and beautiful - but they are difficult to color.

I made this sunflower card using Sunny Harvest stamp set from Powerpoppy, Copic marker, Black Olive ink from Your Nest stamp, and Graphic 45 French Country.

Since the card base in black, I stamped and colored a bit on the inside as well.

This is my entry into the daily marker coloring contest beginner category.  It is also my entry into the Powerpoppy spread a little sunshine challenge which can be found here

I used Your Next Stamp card sketch number 95 which can be found here
